These dance courses and activities are designed to help children of all ages discover the many ways ideas can be articulated, explored and communicated through our bodies and movement.
The courses cover warm ups, dance spaces, improvisation, choreography, dance styles such as hip hop and contemporary dance, and links between dance and other kinds of movement, like sport!

See how Australian contemporary dance company, Chunky Move, uses light in innovative ways and then create your own improvisations based on their methods. Through these explorations, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical and expressive skills to communicate your ideas and understanding through dance.

Getting Started with Dance
PrimaryThe Dance resources on ARTS:LIVE are designed to give you the confidence to teach dance in any classroom. Dance is a wonderful art form that everyone can engage in. Through our bodies, movement and creativity we discover the many ways ideas can be articulated, explored and communicated. -

Learn the Alphabet Dance
Years 1-8, SecondaryAlphabet Dance combines movement and chant, using your body in a percussive and rhythmic way. It can be performed in any style of dance and can include references to cultures, interests and experiences within the group. The dance requires you to create a series of movements that represents each letter of the alphabet, and then spell some simple words. -

School of Fish
3-5 Year Olds, Years 1-4Follow these dance and drama activities to learn some exciting ways of exploring life as a school of fish. A school of fish moves together in exactly the same way at exactly the same time. Explore what it looks and feels like to be part of a fishy school as we go on an underwater adventure. -

Create an Alphabet Dance
Years 1-8, SecondaryCreate An Alphabet Dance is the second component to creating your own version of the dance. Inventing transition moves and forming simple choruses helps to combine all the elements of the dance. Remembering all the moves is a workout for both your memory and your body! -

Musical Fun with Fuzzy
0-5 Year Olds, Years 1-2Musical Fun With Fuzzy introduces you to the joys of active music-making through singing, speaking, moving, dancing, playing and creating. You will make your own Fuzzy the Clown pop-up puppet and learn the basic elements of music. -

A Hip Hop Routine
Years 5-10, SecondaryYou are well on your way to becoming a free-styling Hip Hop dancer once you have learned the individual moves and how to combine them. Practising the routine is important in order to improve your memory and coordination, and it will provide a base for improvisation and eventually learning more complicated moves. -

An Introduction to Hip Hop
Years 5-10, SecondaryAn Introduction to Hip Hop provides the basis to start learning this contemporary and edgy dance. The history of the genre is examined to give context to the dance and to explain why the culture of the dance is so important to its evolution. This is the first of a series in which you will learn a wide range of movement skills and Hip Hop techniques so that you can eventually perform and devise your own choreography. -

Make Tracks
Years 7-10, SecondaryDiscover perspectives on contemporary Indigenous dance from NAISDA Dance College developing artists and teachers. Watch them rehearse and perform, and use the experience as a springboard for your own dance-making. -

Years 5-10, SecondaryGo on a journey through landscape, guided by Indigenous choreographer Vicki Van Hout. Learn to use techniques such as tracking, mapping and locomotive steps, then bring it all together in your own song cycle.
