ARTS:LIVE lets you explore the world of visual arts! There’s a huge range of in-depth courses exploring portraiture, mask making, sculpture, Indigenous art, and sustainability. The site also has a heap of quick crafternoon activities to engage the whole family in the practise of art-making.

The resources have been created in partnership with some of Australia’s finest artists and galleries, including Callum Morton, Ash Keating, Esme Timbery, and Heide Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia.

Making a mask is a fantastic way to begin exploring the history and use of masks in different cultures around the world. This resource will teach you the process for making your own unique papier-mâché face mask or you can use the simple mask template.

    Decorating A Mask is the second component of Mask Making, where you will complete your papier-mâché face mask or decorate our simple mask template. Use inspiration from your own culture and background to decorate your mask and express yourself!

    The work of Aboriginal artist Daniel Boyd interrogates Australia's colonial narrative. Explore the theme of appropriation and use the conventions of social media to shape artworks that offer alternative perspectives. Acknowledge your own presence within a grand narrative.

    Sustain Your Art

    Years 5-10, Secondary
    Meet Ash Keating, a visual artist interested in environmental problems facing society. Discover how he creates large-scale installations from commercial and industrial waste materials and create your own art to inspire and challenge a wider audience to think about sustainability.

    Painting the Music

    3-5 Year Olds, Years 1-6
    Combine visual and performing art by using music to inspire what you draw and paint. Listen to a music track and paint how and what you are feeling or what images it evokes. Explore your creativity, sharpen your listening skills and understand the links between feelings, ideas and artwork.

    How do artists express their feelings and memories through sculpture? Look at and respond to Sweeney's Keepsake (1987) by Les Kossatz, then make your own sculpture based on your feelings and memories. Sculptor Lucy Irvine will show you a method that uses a variety of materials and processes.

    Explore the relationships between subject, artist and viewer through portraiture. Investigate image, identity and representation by exploring some significant portraits in the National Gallery of Victoria's collection.
