Collections Contemporary Indigenous Dance
Deepen students’ understanding of culture, storytelling and movement with the Contemporary Indigenous Dance collection. This powerful series introduces learners to the rich traditions and evolving practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance, guided by leading artists from NAISDA Dance College.
Through video resources, students observe rehearsals, performances and expert insights, gaining an authentic perspective on contemporary Indigenous dance. In Create a Song Cycle, students explore how movement communicates story, knowledge and connection to Country, while Make Tracks provides a springboard for students to develop their own choreography inspired by these traditions.
Teachers are supported with structured learning sequences, practical classroom activities and discussion prompts, making it easy to embed meaningful arts experiences into everyday teaching. Students build skills in movement, interpretation and creative expression while developing respect and understanding of Indigenous cultures.
Aligned to The Australian Curriculum: The Arts (Dance) and Cross-Curriculum Priority: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, this collection equips busy teachers with engaging, culturally rich resources that foster creativity, connection and deeper learning.
