Keep Playing the Ukulele

Years 3-6

This course for years 3 and 4 students follows on from the Getting Started with the Ukulele course and presents new chords, new strumming patterns and introduces basic finger picking techniques.

Presenter and ukulele expert Rose Turtle Ertler outlines techniques for picking a melody, creating a chord chart and strategies for practici with others. Through the lesson series students learn a complete song including verse, chorus, lyrics and melody.

At the end of the course, there is the option for students to perform their song and continue their learning by completing the Rock Out on the Ukulele course.

Through six curriculum-aligned lessons, students play collaborative music games, record sounds from their environment and compose and perform their own seasonal poems inspired by the Noongar six seasons. Along the way, they build music skills and deepen their understanding of First Nations culture and Country.

Soundscapes: You Call That Music?

Explore the environment around you to identify, collect and record sounds using a digital recording device. Experiment with sounds using audio editing software, and compose a unique digital soundscape. Analyse and reflect upon their own and others’ compositions, and consolidate your aural skills. As you will find, music can be created from some very unexpected sounds.
